Toriko Roll Collar is a new single by my all-time favorite band-to-bash-in-reviews SuG! And I was surprised to see them release another release this year because they surely have caused me indescribable headaches with their album noiz star and mini-album Punkitsch driving me on the verge to smack my head against a wall. But you know there is a catch when it comes to this band and it is that the songs are mostly such unbelieveable trash that in the end you end up liking them... in certain occassions of course.
The point with Toriko Roll Collar single is... that it isn't so trashy... my god. It's still nowhere near something you'd listen everyday and something that you'd consider as a cultural uprising. I think this band reached their momentary trash climax with Punkitsch that's for sure.
So we get UMBILICAL (dear Lord what is that for a title, simply gross) which is kind of a gentle pace song like Shikisai and RomantiC, but with more intensity and more energetic instrumental basis. And I kinda like the intense and nice ending, you rarely see such uprising intensity in a ballad at the end, (my god has my trash tolerance risen?).
Utage Piipoo is simply strange and for me slightly intimidating with this merry-go-round carnival melody before engaging in a full pack of inchorenet, jumpy verses and overly irritating chorus thanks to, oh shit, no one other than Mr. I-can-fuck-up-any-possible-song Takeru and his squealy voice.
But then we get Dress up with darkness which would have been a KILLER song, a KILLER if it was performed by any band other than SuG (ok maybe even SuG but with a waaaaaay better vocalist). The riffs are driving, dark but not in a sinister kind of obscure way, but powerful and expressive. The verses are good, the chorus not so much (because of the F-tard Takeru) and I love the dark middle growly part, it's like better than Ayabie's wild stuff. In short, I really like this song but I don't have to repeat for the n-th time what's holding this song from perfection.
Seiten hits back to the old SuK self with an aloof chorus, naggy kind of singing (oh wait there is this short solo part that I like and the basslines are pretty neat) and a recycled melody, but it's short enough not to be torturing annoying.
Overall Toriko Roll Collar (I'm not even sure if that's the real name of the single, but like who cares) ISN'T as annoying as this year's SuG releases were, but it's still well, not good. And it's really sad to see a band whose musicians can actually pull off decent riffs/basslines (please buy the drummer a new drumset because this one sounds bland) and whose songs might have been excellent IF IT WASN'T FOR THE SINGER TAKERU AND HIS HORRID VOICE WHICH CAN FUCK UP ANY SONG IMAGINABLE!
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE SUG FIRE TAKERU!

I totally agree with you about SuG! Ever since they joined PSC, I've always hated Takeru...his voice is absolutely horrific and painful to listen to. I too don't understand why he's allowed to keep his job, 'cause seriously, if it wasn't for him SuG might actually have a chance of going someplace. (I wonder how and why the other band members tolerate him being in the band...>_>) But really, considering their surroundings and the amount of funding they must get, SuG's trashiness and lack of good taste is unbelievable.
Personally, I like all the major PSC artists, but I'm not a fan of their indie division [SuG and Screw], although Screw isn't really all that bad and certainly the better of the two. I don't know what the company was thinking when they took on SuG, or why they haven't done anything to stop the awful trashiness that's been put out by this band. -_-; They're like an annoyingly garish, tacky neon-rainbow coloured stain on the PSC label record, haha. ^_^lll
The guy probably does not even know you exist, so why are you hating on someone you don't even know well? I'm not a SuG fan but until you've been out and about with Takeru you shouldn't judge him by his voice. He does what he loves and that is allthat should matter, if the members of the band are happy, and it seems they're doing just fine right now.
Music appreciation comes in where you can accept the faults of a artist or band, even if their singer sucks or their drummer does or their bass player. It may be difficult to attempt to listen to SuG as a whole(meaning somewhat ignore Takeru's voice) and not focus on the flaws(I have trouble doing it with the GazettE because even though I particularly dislike Reita's appearance and sometimes his bass lines I just 'ignore' him) but if you really like the band you'd
So I don't really like Takeru as a vocalist, primary because his vocal performance doesn't reflect his true ability to sing and because he sounds like he is obviously making fun out of his voice on purpose. I loved him on Scheat and Alterna, hated him after. I never really understood what happened and how can anybody turn from promising, decent singing to goofing around. Seriously.
Overall I don't care about any band's opinion because this reviews are not focused on bands but on people who will listen it. And there will always be fans who will listen to a band no matter what, people who will listen out of curiosity and people who will listen by reccomendation and people who won't like the band at all. People are different and ones likings can't be changed.
So I hate Takeru's voice and the way he manages to screw up potentially good songs and their often flashy and quality disputable songs. So you ask why do I continue to listen?
Because I like the cheeky lyrics he writes, I like the often playfully crushing guitars, I like their bubblegum metal songs when I'm feeling bubbly etc...
Overall on each and every of their releases despite the initial suckage, I always find at least one song I like.
So I'm always ready to go through a candy-punk-crappy torture on each single just because there is always one gem hidden inside it.
Period.

I totally can relate to this view of yours~ Why do I like SuG? I even ask myself that! I'm actually a pretty serious person who writes sad poetry and stuff BUT! when it comes to the time I listen to SuG I get all bubbly!! I don't know *shrugs* maybe Takeru uses a pink colored magic wand on listeners or someting. I agree I find his voice annoying but really cute and unique at the same time. I like the guitars as well. and yes, it's great that you are honest in your reviews and not typical ''OOOOOOOH! SUCH AN AMAZING BAND! HES SO AWESOME!!!KAWAIIIII!blah blah'' (at least most of the The GazettE reviews I come across are like that..That's my favorite band and I like to know what people seriously feel about their music)
There's something about PScompany that I find fishy though..it's like it tries to monopolise the artists or something..sometimes I feel The GazettE's undergoing a make over cause of the company..
I've also got some pretty nice GazettE reviews here too. Even though they are my favorite band I try to treat them in reviews like every other band and try not to fangirl (too much).
AND THANK GOD I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE who thinks PSC is manipulating and meddling with it's artists waaaay more than people percieve it. They are aiming nowadays mostly at quantity other than quality. I really hope bands as GazettE and Alice nine. will leave PSC once their contracts run out, unless it's the contract with the devil.
