I hope you can forgive me the big delay of August's issue. My computer had technical problems so I was way unable to release Baku at time. I hope you don't mind it too much.
Since I'm currently pretty busy I'll just post the pages so you can download.
I'll edit this post once I find time.
Please participate in VOX populi.
Date released: 6.8.2008.
Track list
1. Carry Dawn [PV]
2. Bloodless
3. 抒情成せるも唯唯生きて在ればこそ (Jojou naseru mo tadatada ikite areba koso)
I'm always glad to see Dio ~Distraught Overlord~ release something. I have followed this band from their very beginning and each of their singles always delighted me. Sure they had great and sometimes not so great stuff, but they are an excellent band nevertheless.
Carry Dawn is their latest single. The title song has got this excellent, atmospheric beginning that I like and the whole song moves in this slightly melancholic direction but with the recognizable Dio intensity and power. The chorus reminds me on the one in Juunigatsu no yoru ni, intensive and loud, but unfortunately not as effective in this song. A different chorus would have been better, but heck the rest of the song is simply great (especially those mosh/growl inserts).
Bloodless is a bit better and it has some really good guitarwork and intensive chorus with Mikaru's voice being as brilliant as ever. I really like this almost classic inspired solo in the middle with pulsing bass-lines really good. Other than that the song is decent, though not as brilliant as some songs they have.
Is it just me, or do I hear a death-metal inspiration in Jojou naseru mo tadatada ikite areba koso. This song is one wicked mix of metal riffs, semi-hysteric growls and Mikaru's strong singing with a punch of double-bass in the pretty melodic-death metal chorus. Love it. This songs really hits my string for destructive songs I adore. Dio did have a few really manic and violent songs but non of them sounded so extreme and yet structured and settled like this one. The melodic touch is just a point more.
Carry Dawn doesn't go higher over the set border like some of Dio's previous releases have, but it still doesn't show a downfall in quality. Just these boys had better, but also worser moments. It's not better than the previous mini-album HEAVEN'S CALL but it still delivers strong, metal flaird, intense songs packed with an old-school touch. If you like Visual kei in it's dark and vicious form, then Dio is a band worth your admiration, love and listening. Nice job guys.
Baku hits second issue! Yeah!
So again I've had fun and haste in making this issue but I believe it has come out quite well (though a bit compressed in article space and similar). I had to hasten up with this issue, but the next issue will probably be widen up to 3 pages or more. So look forward to it. Right now enjoy Baku!
The boys have not just released a new single this month but they have also toured the world going from Europe all the way up to America. I am certain that some of the Baku readers have been a part of this tour. To support Ayabie and to honor their achievements in this month Baku featured them as a cover artist.
But two more bands made it to the cover. The J-rock stars Kagrra,, who will certainly mark the summer both in Europe and Japan, and the jazz-rockers from Sugar. Sugar turned out to be the discovery of the month and as such they are this month's featured artist in Baku.
This time Baku had even more music reviews that really took the most space out of the mag. But in the next issue I'll make sure there is enough space for everything so the whole magazine won't look as a frontal crash of various articles.

D'espairsRay - BRILLIANT
Even tough D'espairsRay have said that there won't be a new PV, it looks like they have changed their minds. Partially...
BRILLIANT PV is actually the live footage of this songs performance used as a PV. Though not even half as spectacular as the song itself the PV is still decent and shows how brilliantly D'espairsRay perform and put their heart and soul into it.
I have also reviewed this PV whose review and a few screencaps can be seen here.
Hopefully the guys will make a flashy, hardcore PV for their upcoming single KAMIKAZE. D'espairsRay rarely do have PV's but all of them (except this one) and mindblowing. So I'm wondering which is your favorite D'espairsRay PV? Mine is definitely Garnet :) because the PV perfectly fits the song and shows the disturbing, true side of Visual kei.
Listen to the Top 5 songs of the month

And as always I look forward to your comments, suggestions, feedback, ideas and similar. Enjoy this issue of Baku.
A little announcement: The next issue of Baku may be delayed next month due to my entry exams. But I promise to cover all the reviews and news once I'm done with the exams. Also look forward to a Summer special edition of Baku that will be released hopefully next month.
As from today up to 12.7.2008. I won't post anything on Rockerica because I have to learn and I really don't have time to spend here. But after the short hiatus I will post reviews and everything else from this two week period. Thank you for your understanding and support.
And while I'm here please wish me luck in my entry exams for medicine college. If I pass I'll celebrate it, of course, here on Rockerica. I'll make a huge party on this site and you all are invited to party with me.
Till next time! ジャーネー!

Track list
1. Lord’s Prayer [Listen] [PV]
2. final call [Listen]
3. Allure [Listen]
4. PUPPET SHOW [Listen]
5. 十二月の夜に (Juunigatsu no yoru ni) [Listen]
After finishing the Byakuya ni moyuru hana single trilogy with a quite unspectacular single, Dio has released their first mini-album titled Heaven's Call (Strange calling it a mini album, since Dio's singles hade up to 4 songs!)
Heaven's call shows Dio's new approach: darker, more atmospheric and definitely better composed and arranged.
Starting off with the dark and intense Lord's Prayer which is pure aggression in the verses, but with an intense and very expressive refrain which shows not just that Dio perfectly manages to express complex emotions in the songs but also the great vocal skills of their singer Mikaru. final call is a bit repetitive dark song but in a positive way and has got a very addicting refrain on UNDERSTANDABLE English. Listeners may notice the stunning similarity of Mikaru's voice to those of D'espairsRay's Hizumi (May I say: Better?). Allure bashes off with some heavy and twisted riffs and has got a pretty much regular refrain but which becomes better with every listening.
My personal favorite on the mini-album is definitely PUPPET SHOW that is aggressive and very dark on the verses but surprises with the relaxed and fascinating refrain. Juunigatsu no yoru ni is probably the only weak song on the album, mostly because we have heard the same thing in last dance and Yume wa gareki no naka de, thus has it's special spots in interesting refrains and excellent singing.
Dio's style might have changed a bit to a darker approach but the quality is here. It is no surprise that Dio are getting better with every new release and their songs are getting more complex. Heaven's fall shows again the undeniable talent of this young indie band and is more than worth your time and listening.
A more than an excellent release.
Track list
1. 断頭台は誰が為に揺れる (Datoudai wa ta ga tame ni yureru) [PV]
2. 抱いて眠れ絶望 (Idaite nemure zetsubou)
3. 夢は瓦礫の中に (Yume wa gareki no naka ni)
4. day after day [PV]
Byakuya ni moyuru hana ~Nanji, ware ha zennou no mono nari~ is the 3rd single by Dio and the 3rd part of the single series Byakuya ni moyuru hana.
If you'd heard the last two singles then you would notice what a talented band Dio is. The two previous singles blown me away with brilliant songs that were a combination of hard and melodic rock.
Unfortunately, the third single isn't that brilliant as the previous two. It is a good single overall, but not as mind blowing as the other singles. Datoudai wa ta ga tame ni yureru is pure chaos in every way: violent riffs, screaming, shouting, high speed beat... But the mysterious and rather strange chanting and a bit oriental taste do make this song sounf overall interesting.
Idaite nemure zetsubou has got some pretty interesting riffs, but it does seem a bit misty, without any highlights and bad production which dims a lot the vocalists Mikaru's excellent voice. The single does suffer a bit from bad production and acoustics.
Yume wa gareki no naka ni is in the same manner as the song Last Dance from the previous single and only the song day after day manages to hold up with the quality of the former singles with it's great guitar riffs, melody and singing.
This single is more of a question of taste. I'm not disappointed a lot, but it all could have been better. But still, this single is worth checking out, especially if you are a fan of harder J-rock sound.
Tracklist
1. Prayer
2. 不在という現実絵 (Fuzai to iu genjitsue)
3. Last dance [PV]
4. GOD forsaken ~僕は君の着飾った身体を共有する世界の隣人などでは無い~ (GOD forsaken ~Boku wa kimi no kikazatta karada wo kyouyuu suru sekai no rinjin nado de wa nai~) [PV]
白夜ニ燃ユル花~死と平等の罪の中で~ or Byakuya ni moyuru hana ~Shi to byoudou no tsumi no naka de~ is the second single by the very talented and promising band Dio (Distraught Overlord).
Dio was one of those bands who I have discovered by accident and was very pleased with the discovery. Their first single 白夜ニ燃ユル花 (Byakuya ni moyuru hana) was a great combination of heavy, dark and very melodic. Besides the very interesting tunes the band also fascinates with it's golden-black visual kei styling.
Compared with the first single the second single 白夜ニ燃ユル花~死と平等の罪の中で~ is a bit harder and darker. The dark and gloomy but a bit energetic instrumental opening Prayer makes the path clear with it's marching drums towards the other tracks.
Fuzai to iu genjitsue is a strong and dark track that mostly reminds on some hard D'espairsRay tracks but keeps a Dio touch to it. Compared with other Dio tracks it reminds on the song Garasu no umi. The bridge before the refrain is really catchy and has got a great melody. One thing first time listeners will definitely notice is the unique and powerful voice of the bands vocal Mikaru.
Last dance is a song I heard first as a live version, but the album version way surpasses the live one. The sentimental and a bit gentle piano intro makes a great contrast compared to the strong guitar riffs in this song. Maybe not the strongest track track on the single (at least for me) but is definitely the most cachy. Fans of Visual kei indies bands and even some major bands will like this track.
GOD forsaken ~Boku wa kimi no kikazatta karada wo kyouyuu suru sekai no rinjin nado de wa nai~ is the strongest track on the album and maybe one of the best Dio songs. I was so overtaken by the melody and strenght of this track. From the very beginning till the end this songs manages to captures the listeners attention and emotions. And again I have to mention Mikaru's great vocal skills. Weather if he's screaming, singing, growling, screeching it sounds absolutely fantastic! This song gradually charges with emotions and energy releasing a quite explosive blast at the refrain.
Till today Dio has released only 2 singles what makes all together 7 songs. But every single song is a beautiful, energetic, hard and melodic masterpiece and the more you listen to it the more you love it. It is really rare that such a young band (formed in 2006.) manages to be so good.
Visual kei indies fans and other should definitely check out this very talented band. You won't be dissapointed.
